A wonderful three days of futsal
189 goals scored in 32 games.
The Melbourne Dragons Futsal Club made it into a record of 4 out of 4 grand finals and were crowned champions in the under 13 girls and under 14 boys (for a second year in a row).
First up, the Dragon under 10 boys fought it out against Galaxy FC (who are four amalgamated clubs from Far North NSW and Sout East QLD). In an intense and physically contested game, Galaxy pulled away in the 2nd half to win 5-2. The under 10’s being beginners to the sport showed a tremendous level of development over the week. Some of the players have only played football, so it was great to see how futsal benefited them in such a short period of time.
In the second Grand Final, the under 12 boys played in a tight encounter against FTS. There was nothing that separated the two sides for most of the match as the scores were level at 2-2. The Dragons had a number of chances to towards the end of the game, but, it was FTS who managed to score the winner to make it 3-2.
The third game saw the u13 girls final with the Dragons up against Galaxy FC. The game was a great advertisement for junior female Futsal, as it was played with intensity and skill. With the lead changing throughout the match and neither team giving up, the scores were locked at 3-3 at full time. Fast end to end Futsal ensued during the Extra Time period and it was the Dragons who scored to get in front and win the title, 4-3, making it third time lucky for the Dragons on Grand Final Day. To top it off Dragons’ Alana Murphy won the MVP Award.
Although the girls were relatively new to futsal, they played an exciting attacking brand and were undefeated during the week.
The under 14 boys had been on top of their game throughout the group phase, displying excellent futsal. The U14s Grand Final was between Melbourne Dragons and Futsal Ballarat. The Dragons had a few National Champions in their ranks and it showed as they quickly got into their rhythm and took an early lead. As hard as they tried, the team from Ballarat could not dominate. The Dragons were too good winning the match 9-1. The Dragons captured their second State Futsal Championship in 2 years. Many of the boys won their first (u14) Championships at 12 years old and this year at 13 years old.
Game will be uploaded onto our YouTube Channel.
Well done to all teams.
“It is a wonderful feeling to win games and championships, however, the most important thing is that the players are enjoying the sport, learning and improving upon the previous time.” Harry Amiridis – MDFC Head Coach
